POSITION SUMMARY: | |
The joint Libraries at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University, invite applications for the full time position of Library Technology Support Specialist. The Library Technology Support Specialist is primarily responsible for creating and maintaining Library, SJU Archives and CSB Archives web pages; for processing and loading digital objects to image repository programs; for providing technical support to library departments and archives; and for data collection and analysis related to library operations. This position is also responsible for providing technical assistance to departments utilizing museum and archives software and for maintaining digital preservation inventory documents. The Library Technology Support Specialist may provide direct support for library patrons and may supervise one or more student assistants. This is a service-oriented position requiring interaction with faculty, students, staff, and other members of the community as well as external vendors and service providers. | |
QUALIFICATIONS: | |
Bachelor's degree with technical background required; library experience preferred.
Advanced understanding of the following software and coding: Access, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, HTML, XHTML and CSS.
Demonstrated ability to acquire new software and programming skills.
The successful candidate will exhibit excellent interpersonal and communications skills in order to effectively communicate with customers. This position requires a high degree of accuracy with the ability to work with details while handling multiple priorities. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a high level of initiative with the ability to function autonomously. This position will require the ability to work both independently and collaboratively and be able to diagnose problems and propose workable solutions.

Open Access Week at MCTC Library!
This week is International Open Access Week (October 20-26th 2014)!
MCTC Library is celebrating this week and some of your fellow classmates have been helping out! The Library Community & Outreach Services class created three student projects to get out the word about Open Access:
The first project is a online guide to Open Access: http://minneapolis.libguides.com/c.php?g=140471
The second project is an Open Access pamphlet available in the library. You can find in on the Open Access book display in the library lab area.
The third project is an event coming up this Saturday October 25th: Open Access Jeopardy will be begin at 2:00pm in the MCTC library. Stop by to test your knowledge of Open Access and win candy or buttons!

Records Management Assistant
The person selected for this position will be working in our corporate records center in Minneapolis. This position will support practices outlined in our records management policies, assist staff, and manage processes in support of the records management system.
The work will include:
· Assisting users with requests for information and in locating a variety of information for their use in completing project work
· Organizing and filing electronic and paper project file materials; processing and data entry of incoming information and applying classification schemes so records are handled using established controls and practices
· Requesting and transferring materials to off-site storage
· Helping in the orientation, training and cross-training of new employees and users and supporting branch office records management services
· Providing network file maintenance services to protect the integrity of the organizational structure and records
· Assisting with legal hold processes
· Maintaining and updating the operating procedures of the records center
· Ensuring adequate levels of supplies are maintained for records center personnel
Minimum Qualifications
· Ability to maintain attention to detail
· Data entry skills
· Intermediate skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications
· Ability to communicate clearly about scope and cost of services to internal clients
· Ability to communicate with other records staff and supervisor about workload and other challenges
· Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
· Good problem solving skills
· Ability to suggest and or develop new processes to meet the changing demands for information by staff
· Two year technical degree or equivalent experience in a records center or other administrative role
· Satisfactory driving record in accordance with Barr's vehicle use policy

· College degree, including specialized courses in records management
· Experience with databases, especially InMagic solutions (Presto, Genie)
