Remote project work opportunity with Plum Creek Library System!

 Want to gain library experience? Work remote? Earn some money?

Plum Creek Library System is looking for a student intern to help develop early literacy guides to include in our storytime kits. Each kit contains five books and manipulatives for caregivers to use with children to encourage reading. We would like to include a 1-2 page document that provides activities, songs, and fingerplays that relate to the theme. A $400 stipend will be available for up to four people taking part in this project.

Project will be ongoing until completed.

Children’s Library Internship - Fall

The Position
The Children’s Library at the Minneapolis Central Library serves families and children from birth to 6th grade, including many childcare and school groups. We are a community resource for Minneapolis residents and schools, as well as being a destination spot for visitors from around Minnesota and the world. Our large, historic collection of children’s literature is unique in a public library, and provides a rich resource for artists, authors, students, and historians. Our library hosts family performances for large audiences in the theater-style Pohlad Hall, including puppet shows, children’s films, and musical theater. We also conduct storytimes, craft activities, and classes for children in acting and writing. 

This unpaid internship is for the duration of one semester, September - December 2013, 8 - 10 hours per week and can be used for college credit or work experience.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities include:
  • Assist Librarians with collection development by completing first-round literature reviews and processing reviewed materials.
  • Shadow library staff on the Children's Library service desk and gain experience with youth services reference and readers advisory.
  • Plan and assist with storytimes, class visits, building tours, and special events
  • Develop and implement passive programming and book displays


Best Qualified Candidates will:
·      Be currently enrolled in a library program or be a recent library school graduate
·      Have completed coursework in information services
·      Have an interest in youth services and/or collection development
·      Have not previously completed an internship with Hennepin County Library
