Job Opportunity: Community Library Manager 1, St Paul Public Library

 

Community Library Manager I

Full time, $52,353.60 - $73,777.60 Annually

  • Current openings are:
    • Arlington Hills Library / Createch teen STEAM programming. This position will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of Createch and SPPL’s teen makerspace. Additionally, this position is the assistant manager of Arlington Hills library in the Payne/Phalen area, and part of the SPPL/Saint Paul Parks leadership team in the joint facility. 
    • Riverview Library branch manager. This position is the on-site manager of a smaller Carnegie library located on the West Side neighborhood of Saint Paul. This position will be responsible for all aspects of operation of the branch, including community engagement and staff supervision. 
  • The eligible list created from this posting will be used to fill these openings and any future openings in this title for up to one year.

Library Social Worker

This position is employed by the Wilder Foundation with a full-time assignment at Saint Paul libraries. The incumbent is moving out of state. Posting is here. Deadline is Sep 1.

  • The position is a partnership of Wilder and SPPL to address social determinants of health by providing outreach to library patrons who may benefit from information and referral to services such as basic needs, housing, or physical and mental health care. 
  • Provide support & mentoring to children, adults and families to navigate community resources.
  • Work as part of the library team, with families and community members to assist people in accessing needed resources. 
  • Provide consultation and training to library staff, community liaisons, and other partners. 
  • When indicated, provide initial mental health screenings and support individuals in accessing services.     
  • MSW degree and MN LGSW or LICSW licensure required. 

 

Library Community Services Coordinator

This position coordinates and supervises the team of Community Specialists (formerly referred to as Cultural Liaisons), including managing the implementation and evaluation of several high priority grant-funded projects and initiatives. The incumbent recently received an internal promotion.

  • Community specialists work through a "culture and community first" approach to providing relevant presence, information, services, programs and language skills to members of varied cultural communities - both from within library locations in Saint Paul and outreach and engagement beyond library locations.
  • This work requires an intentionally relational and thoughtful approach to developing and managing community collaboration opportunities throughout the city of Saint Paul. 
  • This role works closely with city and community leaders inside and outside the library to make appropriate decisions about available resources as aligned with library priorities.
  • SPPL currently has Community Specialists serving the Hmong, Karen, Latinx, Somali, Black/African American, and Amharic-speaking Ethiopian communities.​

Therefore, candidates who may be a fit for other types of community services coordination roles in a library setting are encouraged to apply and get on the eligibility list, even if the current opening is not a best fit.  

 

Digital Navigator

As part of a pilot of innovative service models to meet digital equity needs in our city, SPPL is hiring two Digital Navigators. These are 0.8 positions (32 hrs/wk) that are grant-funded through June 30, 2022. SPPL intends to seek grant funds to continue the positions when the current funding expires.  Posting is here. Deadline is Sep 8.

  • The Digital Navigator positions provide individualized or small group assistance to community members who need affordable home internet service, affordable internet-capable devices, and/or coaching in introductory digital skills to become effective home internet users. 
  • This assistance is provided by telephone but may also include email, text, video chat, and other communication methods that work for the learner. 
  • One-on-one and small group in-person sessions may be provided depending on library service pandemic levels. 
  • The Digital Navigator’s work is part of the Saint Paul Public Library’s efforts to ensure equitable internet access for all residents, particularly those experiencing lower levels of home connectivity.
