- Performs circulation related tasks, including checking materials in and out, renewing materials, placing holds, MnLINK requests; assists customers with library accounts, including processing applications, verifying information, accepting payment, renewing, etc.
- Provides technology troubleshooting for public; provides technology support and instruction for public and library staff.
- Assists with daily branch operation and service delivery, including planning and delivering programs; responding to customer concerns and disputes; answering directional and basic informational questions; performing collection maintenance tasks; and providing general assistance to Librarians and Branch Manager.
- Participates in job related meetings, training sessions, and events as required, including community outreach efforts such as parades, showcases, etc.
- Works the hours and/or shifts assigned and begins and ends work on time.

Job: Library Services Assistant with Washing County Library (Cottage Grove)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of paid work experience that includes six months of customer service and six months using computers and software applications.
The finalist for a position vacancy will be required to pass a criminal history investigation at County expense prior to beginning employment with Washington County.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work performed is physical in nature, and typically performed within a Library. Lifting requirement of up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis. Equipment used may include, but is not limited to, computer, calculator, telephone, camera, cash register, photocopier, printer and scanner.
Work interruptions are frequent. There is some pressure associated with dealing with individuals who may be emotionally charged and with project or activity deadlines and details.

HOURS / DAYS: Twenty (20) hours per week, including various days, evenings, and weekends. Work schedules (hours and days) and location are subject to change based on department needs.

The Library Assistant III ensures that the HSL AIS department contributes to HSL communications efforts through print, digital and social media outlets, oversees Reserves services for the AHC community, offers direct in‐person and electronic reference assistance; assists with the supervision of student library assistants; provides departmental clerical support; and assists with both HSL and system‐wide special projects and initiatives. The person in this position works Monday through Friday from 8:00am‐4:30pm.
(30%) Oversees and Prepares Electronic and Course Reserves
- Accepts and prepares requests for Digital Coursepacks, E‐Reserves and print Course Reserves materials.
- Obtains scans or copies of requested items via the print collection, recall or Interlibrary Loan.
- Creates and adjusts records within the Reserves Direct.
- Removes inactive reserve materials.
- Creates temporary bibliographic records for non‐library‐owned items
- Monitors and troubleshoots proxied links to electronic materials, works with appropriate staff to resolve problems, and creates interim solutions for database errors.
(30%) Provides Communications and Social Media Support
- In coordination with the Communications Coordinator, the person in this position will:
- Review, develop, and update content for the three Health Sciences Libraries websites (Bio‐Medical Library, Veterinary Medical Library, Wangensteen Historical Library).
- Maintain the Health Sciences Libraries social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, through regular postings and content development.
- Create and/or prepare images, and print and digital signage for use throughout the library and through other communication channels.
- Select and prepare content for rotating features on the Health Sciences Libraries’ home pages, including featured news items, strategic initiatives content, background images, and featured resources.
- Identify, write, and publish news stories to be incorporated into the University Libraries’ continuum publication.
- Prepare marketing materials for special events, new resources, or other activities as needed.
(20%) Provides Direct Public Service
- Staffs the Bio‐Medical Library's service desk to provide reference, information and access services that require judgment and informed appraisal of the user's needs, based on thorough working knowledge of relevant library policies, procedures, resources, services and facilities.
- Serves as a front‐line staff for digital information services, answering questions via chat and email and making referrals as appropriate.
- Provides direct user instruction in the effective use of digital and physical resources, including sophisticated database search techniques.
- Facilitates and troubleshoots access to on‐site public workstations and online library resources, referring to technical support staff as appropriate.
- Instructs users on library equipment and technology (e.g., photocopier, scanner, Value Port microform machines, laptops, and personal devices such as tablets, smartphones, mobile site assistance).
- Maintains awareness of and promotes evolving suite of specialized "researcher support" tools, policies, trends, and resources at service points.
(10%) Assists in Supervision of Student Staff

This position exists to support the operation of the library circulation services, with emphasis on the smooth functioning of reserves collection processes.
