Position Description:
Bethel Seminary Library is seeking an individual to oversee the circulation functions in the seminary library. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: provide information and assistance to patrons who come into/call/email the library; supervise student workers overseeing shelving, filling holds and VDX requests, and mailing materials to other Bethel libraries and distance students; manage the billing of lost and overdue materials, oversee shelf reading and maintenance of the physical collection; process and maintain reserve materials; provide assistance with copy machines and printers; and interact with other CLIC and MTLA circulation and reserve staff and attend meetings representing the interest of Bethel Seminary.
Requirements:
Requires a bachelor’s degree. Library experience, familiarity with Millennium software and biblical or theological materials is beneficial. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is required. The successful candidate must have proven oral and written communication skills, demonstrated detail orientation, and be able to organize, prioritize and handle multiple projects. Individual must be able to learn library programs, work independently as well as part of a team, and be able to represent the library in a mature and professional manner.
FT, 12 months, 32-40 hours/week, non-exempt

Minnesota Library Association is seeking presentation proposals for the
2012 Annual Conference: “Minnesota Libraries: A Capitol Idea”

           

The Minnesota Library Association Annual Conference equips library staff with new ideas and tools to stay up-to-date, innovate, and succeed in their careers. A presentation at the conference can have an immediate and lasting impact on local libraries.

The 2012 Annual Conference will be held October 3-5 at the Saint Paul RiverCentre in St. Paul, Minnesota. Sessions will run 60 minutes—a length appropriate for 1-3 speakers. The format of the presentation may include single or multiple speakers, panel discussions, case studies, and/or demonstrations of projects.

New for 2012 is MonstrosiTEEN—a micro, one-day conference on Thursday focused on teens. A teen-related session will be featured in each of the day’s four breakout sessions.

Constructing Knowledge and Networks

presented by the Academic and Research Libraries Division, with support from the Public Libraries Division (PLD) of the Minnesota Library Association (MLA) and Minnesota Educational Media Organization (MEMO)

Keynote speaker: Lane Wilkinson, assistant professor and reference and instruction librarian at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga

Last year, ARLD Day tackled the rise of mobile devices and their effects on libraries. Now we turn to transliteracy—the skills needed to “communicate meaning between media,” as defined by our keynote speaker. From the Beginner’s Guide to Transliteracy on the Libraries and Transliteracy blog comes another definition: “The ability to read, write and interact across a range of platforms, tools and media from signing and orality through handwriting, print, TV, radio and film, to digital social networks.”

Wilkinson is part of a unique group of academic, public and school librarians who blog, debate and advocate for this emerging concept and what it means in our libraries. Wilkinson asks: “Is [transliteracy] a bold new concept or the current enfant terrible of librarianship?”

Join us on April 27 at ARLD Day 2012 to engage, connect and learn. We will begin the day with a full breakfast and networking, so please join us at 8:30!

Hennepin County Library

The Preservation department with Hennepin County Library plays a vital role in ensuring the long-term viability of the Library’s print collections through repair and restoration measures, book binding, preservation photocopy, and other preservation methods.  The Bindery/Preservation department also performs a consulting and educational function for staff on preservation matters.

Commitment:
One semester, 6 to10 hours per week, June – August 2012.

Wage:
This is an unpaid position which could be for college credit or work experience.

Duties:
Duties may include the following:

·         Preservation bookbinding

·         Construction of preservation enclosures for library materials

·         Simple mending of library materials

·         General processing of library materials including some clerical work

Requirements:
Candidate must have attention to detail and good manual dexterity.

Coursework and/or experience in book preservation helpful but not necessary.

Candidate has not completed an internship with Hennepin County Library in the past.

Branch Librarian Opening

• Branch Librarian II, Location Milaca: Milaca is one of 14 branches of the East Central Regional Library system. The mission of ECRL is: Connecting and strengthening communities through the power of knowledge.
• Responsibilities: Oversee operation of a medium-sized branch library. The Branch Librarian is assisted by a Branch Aide who works 26.5 hours a week plus some locally provided support. The branch is open 5 days per week (Tues-Sat) for a total of 37 hours. Branch service statistics for 2011 recorded an average of 4,591 checkouts per month and 4,155 visitors per month. The branch moved into its new building in 2007. The Milaca Branch receives excellent support from its Friends group.
• Required: Bachelors Degree; Up to date technology skills; 3 years relevant experience.
• Preferred: MLS, MLIS, or Minnesota Certification.
• Skills and Abilities: Commitment to providing modern public library service; Above average communication skills; Excellent customer service skills; Demonstrated ability and willingness to lead a library team of staff and volunteers.
• Compensation: $14.92 per hour; PTO, Health Insurance, PERA.
