Minneapolis Internship



The Preservation Department of the Hennepin County Library is seeking one or two interns to assist in an effort to conserve historic county plat maps. This is an unpaid internship. Duties will include map encapsulation, cutting backing sheets, data entry, photography, and other duties as needed. Requirements include a steady hand, attention to detail, the ability to work independently as well as to work in cooperation with others. An interest in book and paper preservation will be helpful. Internship will begin mid to late September and continue to project completion, likely early spring 2017. 8-20 hours per week, M-F workdays.

The Special Collections Department of the Hennepin County Library is seeking two interns to perform a variety of scanning and image editing functions for the Library’s digitization program, and also to create metadata for an historic events program collections.  This is an unpaid internship.  Duties include digital scanning of a variety of materials formats using multiple equipment types, image editing using Irfanview, creating metadata using MS Excel spreadsheets, and minor preservation treatments.  Some experience with digital scanning and MS Excel is desirable, but not required.  The internship is a 100-120 hour assignment and will begin late September continuing into December.  8-10 hours per week, M-Th workdays.
