Overview
Macalester College seeks to hire a part-time Library Associate of Collections to work as a member of the Collection Development and Discovery team in its DeWitt Wallace Library. This position will provide support in creating and updating records for items in the collection, outsourced binding, collection inventory and maintenance, checking accuracy of URLs and descriptions of our online resources, and processing interlibrary loan requests.
Responsibilities
- Create and update records in WorldCat--a worldwide database of information about library collections--for items held by the Dewitt Wallace Library.
- Manage and coordinate outsourced library binding (for example, compiling multiple journal issues into a single hardbound copy). Work closely with outsourced commercial bindery vendors to assure that work and service meets library specifications.
- Assist with ongoing inventory and maintenance of the library collection. Includes activities such as shelving and shifting books/journals, removing unneeded materials, etc.
- Assist with checking accuracy and editing descriptions and URLs for online resources.
- Assists with processing interlibrary loan requests with attention to detail, a high level of accuracy, and ability to perform work in a timely manner.
- Assist with direction and training of student employees.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, associate or bachelor degree preferred
- Proficient with computer applications such as email, word-processing, Internet searching, and spreadsheets
- Attentive to detail, well organized, able to work steadily with a high level of accuracy
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and problem solving skills
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team
