Library Accessibility Specialist
Job Summary
This position works with faculty and staff from the library to ensure that library-produced content meets accessibility standards. Stays current with accessibility standards, needs, and tools including software necessary to ensure accessibility of content. Assists other library employees in their use of accessibility technologies and applications of accessibility standards. Helps to manage electronic reserves and copyright clearance. Provides assistance and instruction on the use of library resources, services, and technology to library patrons including faculty, staff, and students of the university as well as community members. Explains the policies and procedures of the library to patrons. Helps coordinate the circulation of library materials and the operation of the service desks. Communicates with various departments with shared responsibilities. Directs the work of student support staff.

- Willingness to learn more about accessibility standards, technologies, and universal design principles and applications
- Team player with proven ability to build trustful relationships and to work in diverse teams
- Education and experience: High School diploma and 2 years relevant experience or a bachelor's degree and 1 year of relevant experience. OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience are required
- Excellent customer service skills are important to the position in order to serve the customer in a positive, calm, courteous, and efficient manner.
- Experience working with diverse populations
- The ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in the English language sufficient to determine and respond to the informational needs of clients with varied educational, complexity levels, and diverse backgrounds
- The ability to train, direct and evaluate student employees
- The ability to work within a team; be amenable to cross-training; and build good working relationships with other staff, faculty, students and the general public
- Regular and punctual attendance is essential to this position
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of and experience applying universal design to documents and other created content
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Strong computer skills
- Certification or coursework in accessibility standards and/or technologies
- Experience in a library
- Demonstrated familiarity or experience with accessibility standards and guidelines
- Demonstrated familiarity or experience with accessibility technologies and techniques
