Help support the clerical, technical and administrative needs of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) Library, a specialized information center providing services and resources for agency staff and partners. The student worker will get lots of experience responding to interlibrary loan requests, cataloging, fielding reference questions and possibly working to transition the library to SharePoint.

Job Description:

This position will work about 16 hrs a week, for 6 months.

Help support the clerical, technical and administrative needs of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) Library, a specialized information center providing services and resources for DEED staff and partners. DEED is the state's principal economic development agency and its programs promote business recruitment, expansion, and retention; international trade; workforce development; and community development. Duties:

1. Assist librarian with collection management.
2. Oversee library facility, maintaining computers and other equipment.
3. Update library's website.

Please note that this position would initially be set up for 6 months, with the possibility of an extension, up to 36 months.
Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of two (2) to three (3) years of post-secondary education in library and information science.
Must be able to work up to 16 hours per week.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Working knowledge of computer and software, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to interact with clients and staff in a courteous, pleasant and professional manner.

(Note: To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker, you must be a student enrolled in an educational program or planning to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as student workers, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. For this vacancy, students must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program. If a student is enrolled at a credit-granting institution he/she must carry at least six semester (nine quarter) credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, a student must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load shall be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.)

(At this level-- Student Worker, Para-Professional-Senior--students have generally completed at least 2-3 years of post-secondary education related to the program in which they are employed.)
Preferred Qualifications:

Web design and library experience.
Familiarity and understanding of library systems Aleph and OCLC for interlibrary loan, basic cataloging and periodicals managment.
Attention to detail.
