Wilder Foundation Library Assistant

The Wilder Foundation is hiring a full-time Library Assistant. Responsibilities will include cataloging, conducting literature searches, and assisting library customers. We are looking for a current MLIS student or recent graduate, or someone with a minimum of four years of special library experience. The Amherst H. Wilder Foundation is a St. Paul-based nonprofit community organization that helps children, families, and older adults through direct service programs, research, leadership development, and community building. The library is based within Wilder Research, the research arm of the Foundation that works with organizations to study the effectiveness of their services and the trends and issues that affect their work. The library is a three-person team that provides information, knowledge management, and copyediting services to Foundation staff.

Acquisitions/Serials Coordinator at Augsburg College

Augsburg College invites applicants for the position of Acquisitions/Serials Coordinator.  The Coordinator performs the procurement function for library materials in all formats so that students and faculty have access to current relevant library resources.  The Coordinator also manages the library’s serials holdings.

The position begins January 26, 2015.  This position is 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week) with full benefits included.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to pay attention to details, be accurate, be skillful with numbers, follow established procedures, work independently, solve problems, and multi-task.  The successful candidate will have experience with library and vendor online databases used for ordering and managing library materials and/or experience managing serials.  The candidate should have an understanding of online accounting systems which help manage finances. 

Primary Responsibilities
Orders all library resources:  pre-searches, transmits, receives, and processes invoices of orders.       
Downloads library records from OCLC cataloging database into III acquisitions database.
Enters vendor, cost, and selector information into III database and assigns fund accounts.
Submits invoices to Administrative Accounting Office and monitors, troubleshoots, and balances library account in the College’s computer financial system (Agresso).
Manages serials collection:  cataloging, claiming, filing, and stack maintenance.
Supervises students who assist in acquisitions and serials functions.

Required Experience

  • Associates degree in Library Information Technology or BA/BS required.
  • One year of related experience required.
  • Strong communication skills required: speaking, writing, and listening.
  • Required computer skills:  Excel, Word.
  • Required skills/abilities:  attention to detail, accuracy, skill with numbers, following established procedures, working independently, problem-solving, multi-tasking.
  • Experience/knowledge of OCLC preferred.
  • Familiarity with library catalogs and basic searching (III or other catalog vendor) preferred.
  • Familiarity with publishers and their ordering processes preferred.
  • Familiarity with serials management preferred.
