RSVP NOW for LIT Spring 2019 Program Event, featuring Hennepin County Library (HCL) POP UP Hiring + Zine Collection Presentation

When: Saturday, April 6th | 10am - 12pm (zines) 1pm- 3pm (HCL Presentation and Interviews) RSVP HERE by March 31st to secure your spot.

Where: Minneapolis College Library Classroom (L1200) for zine making and 3rd floor meeting spaces (L3000 and L3100) for HCL POP UP Hiring

What: Join Minneapolis College Library Information Technology faculty for our exciting Spring 2019 event. Morning activities will focus on Zine Collections: a brief presentation to learn more about Minneapolis College Library zine collection, plus opportunities to practice cataloging zines and to make your own! Light refreshments will be served in between the morning and afternoon programs in L3000.

Immediately following the morning activities, Hennepin County Library will offer a 30 minute presentation on what sorts of employees they are looking for, what it's like to work in their system, and Q&A. After the presentation, HCL supervisors will be conducting 15 minute interviews for the Associate Librarian substitute and Specialist substitute positions. Successful interviewees will be invited to join the substitute pool for these positions.

Minneapolis College's Career Services will be offering additional programming to support this event, with sessions focused on preparing for interviews.

Join us for an optional “pay your own way” Social Time from 4-6pm at Dancing Ganesha.

Why: LIT Faculty strongly encourage ALL program students and alumni to attend, even if you ultimately are not interested in public library work. The networking and interviewing experience alone is worth your time!

HCL substitute employees are offered shifts when and where they may be available, to cover employee illness, vacations, and the like. It's an easy and streamlined way to become an insider in this library system, with a much greater shot at the full-time jobs that regularly come up in these job classifications.

NOTE: If you plan to participate in the interviews, please bring a copy of your Resume and 2 References. Contact LIT Instructor Bill Vann for ideas on how to prepare for your interview: William.Vann@minneapolis.edu

RSVP HERE by March 31st to secure your spot. Please be prepared to specify which programs you will attend, and which HCL substitute position you are interested in being interviewed for.

The Minnesota Library Association (MLA) Institute for Leadership Excellence (MILE) gives participants an opportunity to grow leadership skills, connect with library professionals from around Minnesota, and be paired with a mentor. MILE helps you discover the leader within yourself and learn to lead effectively today - even if your current position is not one of leadership.

You'll have the opportunity to:
  • Develop and refine leadership skills
  • Develop and move forward on professional and personal goals
  • Network and make connections with people in the broader community
  • Reflect on the variety of leadership opportunities available at the local, regional and state levels
  • Meet and connect with your individually selected mentor
We are also looking for mentors to share their experience and knowledge with this year's attendees.
