Hennepin County Library POP UP Hiring Event

Hennepin County Library (HCL) is offering an exciting POP UP hiring event at Minneapolis College Library on Monday, November 21st from 4-7pm. 
Check out the event flyer and spread the word to anyone you know who might be interested!

Hiring managers at HCL are looking to fill 2 job postings within their Library system (Library Specialist and Homework Helper Lead Tutors) and will provide interview questions to candidates ahead of time. Interviews will take 20-30 minutes, and require an appointment. They will be scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. We highly recommend visiting Career Services for resume help and mock interview coaching before you attend the Hennepin County Library pop-up hiring event. To schedule an appointment, visit Navigate, visit the Career Services suite in T. 2300, or call 612-659-6723. Career Services also hosts walk-in hours between 11 am and 1 pm on Tuesdays.

Volunteer Opportunity @ Minneapolis Central Library

 Anna Van Sice,  Digital Literacy Coordinator at Minneapolis Central Library, invites LIT students and friends interested in volunteering, to consider the opportunity to apply to be a computer tutor at Minneapolis Central Library. The link to apply is the following:

After screening and application approval, volunteers will go through a short training process and then work 1:1 with library patrons on skills relating to computer literacy and job searching. Schedules are flexible depending on the volunteer’s availability.

RSVP NOW for LIT Spring 2019 Program Event, featuring Hennepin County Library (HCL) POP UP Hiring + Zine Collection Presentation




When: Saturday, April 6th | 10am - 12pm (zines) 1pm- 3pm (HCL Presentation and Interviews) RSVP HERE by March 31st to secure your spot.


Where: Minneapolis College Library Classroom (L1200) for zine making and 3rd floor meeting spaces (L3000 and L3100) for HCL POP UP Hiring


What: Join Minneapolis College Library Information Technology faculty for our exciting Spring 2019 event. Morning activities will focus on Zine Collections: a brief presentation to learn more about Minneapolis College Library zine collection, plus opportunities to practice cataloging zines and to make your own! Light refreshments will be served in between the morning and afternoon programs in L3000.


Immediately following the morning activities, Hennepin County Library will offer a 30 minute presentation on what sorts of employees they are looking for, what it's like to work in their system, and Q&A. After the presentation, HCL supervisors will be conducting 15 minute interviews for the Associate Librarian substitute and Specialist substitute positions. Successful interviewees will be invited to join the substitute pool for these positions.

Minneapolis College's Career Services will be offering additional programming to support this event, with sessions focused on preparing for interviews.



Join us for an optional “pay your own way” Social Time from 4-6pm at Dancing Ganesha.


Why: LIT Faculty strongly encourage ALL program students and alumni to attend, even if you ultimately are not interested in public library work. The networking and interviewing experience alone is worth your time!

HCL substitute employees are offered shifts when and where they may be available, to cover employee illness, vacations, and the like. It's an easy and streamlined way to become an insider in this library system, with a much greater shot at the full-time jobs that regularly come up in these job classifications.

MN Job: Hennepin County Library Customer Service Specialist

Library Customer Service - Specialist


HCL is currently accepting applications for Library Customer Service Specialists at many library branches. The Specialist position only requires a GED or diploma + some customer service experience, and is one where the system has been very motivated to hire folks from local communities to reflect the diversity of patrons. Specialists work at library desks to provide basic information, and they also process library books and other materials. The application is only open through Wednesday, 11/21.

It will improve your application if you indicate a willingness to work at any location as this applicant pool will be used to create a list for future positions as well as current openings.

It’s a good wage, union-represented, with outstanding benefits.

Are you a current MCTC LIT student? Seeking to learn more about the field? Want to learn where you could work after graduating?  Or Current Hennepin County Library staff looking to move up?

Come to the "MCTC Library Information Technology Networking" event that will be led by LIT Faculty & Hennepin County Library Staff. There will be a panel discussion on Hennepin County Library job Description and MCTC's Library Information Technology Program.

It will be a fun event with short group activities and some refreshments!
