HCL Internship


Filmmaking Interns

Hennepin County Library’s Information & Online Services supports standards for information transactions both in buildings and online, as well as coordinating the development and content of Hennepin County Library’s website.
Information and Online Services produces short videos that share information on library collections and services, and document library events.

The Information & Online Services division seeks filmmaking students for internships to assist in creating films which will be hosted on the Library’s YouTube and Vimeo channels as well as linked to the Library website, which averages millions of hits each year. Full credit for the student’s work will be attached to each film produced.

Commitment with months
This unpaid internship is for the duration of one semester, September 2012 – December 2012 and can be used for college credit or work experience. The primary hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday with some flexibility.  Additional evening and weekend hours may be required.  Project Internships will be 6 – 10 hours per week with a primary focus. While internships with multiple projects could be upwards of 20 – 30 hours per week.

Primary Duties and responsibilities include:
·         In collaboration with Information and Online Services staff to create short films
·         Using best practices with filmmaking and production schedules
·         Operating and trouble-shooting filmmaking equipment proficiently

Best Qualified Candidates will have:
·         Experience creating high quality short videos.
·         Demonstrated expertise with cameras, lights, microphones, and Macbook with editing software.
·         Not completed an internship with Hennepin County Library in the past.

MN Job Posting - Media Services Technician


Media Services Technician


St. Catherine University, Minneapolis Campus, invites applicants for a nine month (September through May), Media Services Technician position working primarily weekdays from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Responsibilities:   
This position serves the Library and Media Services department and provides technical support for University classrooms and academic departments. Job responsibilities include: providing support of media and equipment for faculty, staff and students, including troubleshooting equipment problems in the classroom. Provide routine and preventative maintenance of classroom and media center equipment including parts and equipment inventory management.  
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; customer service experience; work experience with audiovisual equipment operation in an educational setting; work experience with equipment maintenance; ability to work with a diverse community; computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations).
The incumbent must have the ability to respond respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, in a manner that affirms the worth and preserves the dignity of individuals, families and communities
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with classroom technologies, such as presentation software and/or lecture capture systems. Two years post high school education.
Salary range:   $14.26 to $15.85

A Call for Zine Collection Interns @ Minneapolis Community & Technical College Library


Minneapolis Community & Technical College Library is looking for Zine Collection Interns to help with some special projects for the MCTC Zine Collection during the fall of 2012 and spring of 2013.  

Interns can expect to work on the following:
  • Cataloging zines using our newly developed xZINECOREx metadata standard (derived from Dublin Core) and physical processing (labeling, filing, organizing files, etc.)
  • Working with zine donations and zine collection development
  • Helping with the development of a "Minnesota Zine Collection"
  • Creating attractive zine displays and working with the zine space
  • Helping with MCTC Zine Collection events and promotional work
We are interested in anyone who:
  • Is interested in zines
  • Is an active participant in the Twin Cities zine community
  • Has a strong background in cataloging or metadata entry
  • Has experience with event planning and promotional work
  • Has experience with creating displays and working with space
  • Is studying Library Science at any level (MLIS, LIS, or LIBT)
*you do not need to meet all the requirements above; we have different ideas for what this internship could look like!

Some things to know about MCTC Library and this internship:
  • This internship is not paid
  • You can have a flexible work assignment with a great degree of independence, though we would like to have a weekly time commitment over the course of a semester (or 2)

Library Serieals Manager Job @ Gustavus Adolphus College

Serials Manager

The Folke Bernadotte Memorial Library at Gustavus Adolphus College seeks
a full-time (11.5 months) serials manager (starting salary range $31,000
- $35,000, depending on qualifications) to oversee the acquisition and
handling of electronic and print subscriptions as well as to maintain
and troubleshoot access to materials through the catalog, link resolver,
proxy server, and library website. The serials manager also keeps
abreast of trends and best practices in scholarly publishing and access,
pulls data for collection analysis from multiple systems, trains and
mentors student employees, and participates in library-wide planning and
development.

The library is looking for candidates with strong organizational,
problem-solving, and communication skills, a capacity to take initiative
and respond effectively to change, and enthusiasm for technological
innovation. A bachelor's degree is required. Supervisory experience in
an academic library setting is highly desirable.

Preservation Internship

The Position
The Preservation team with Hennepin County Library plays a vital role in ensuring the long-term viability of the Library’s print collections through repair and restoration measures, book binding and other preservation methods.  Preservation also performs a consulting function to staff on preservation matters.

This unpaid internship is for the duration of one semester, September 2012 – December 2012, 6-10 hours per week and can be used for college credit or work experience.

Primary Duties and responsibilities include:
·         Preservation bookbinding
·         Construction of preservation enclosures for library materials
·         Simple mending of library materials
·         General processing of library materials including some clerical work

Best Qualified Candidates will:
·         Candidate must have attention to detail and good manual dexterity.
·         Coursework and/or experience in book preservation helpful.
·         Have not had an internship with Hennepin County Library in the past.

Special Collections Internship

The Position
The James K. Hosmer Special Collections features mainly the Minneapolis Collection, which is comprised of materials related to the history of Minneapolis, such as books, photos, maps, biographical materials, clippings, programs, documents, and many archival collections. This internship will include processing and describing archival collections with staff direction. Interns will gain experience working with all aspects of archival processing. Some work with digitization is also possible.

This unpaid internship is for the duration of one semester, September 2012 – December 2012, 8-16 hours per week and can be used for college credit or work experience.

Primary Duties and responsibilities include:
·         Process newly acquired archival collections.
  • Update descriptions of existing collections.
  • Create metadata using Archivist's Toolkit.
  • Digitize using scanners and/or digital editing software.
  • Preserve work using enclosures and other treatments.
  • Develop archival storage, such as refoldering and labeling.
Best Qualified Candidates will:
  • Have some archival work experience and/or education in archival studies or librarianship.
  • Experience in digital preservation and/or metadata creation helpful.
  • Education or knowledge of local history helpful.
  • Strong computer skills
  • Available weekday business hours.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Have not had an internship with Hennepin County Library in the past.
