The James K. Hosmer Special Collections Department consists mainly of the Minneapolis Collection, which is comprised of materials related to the history of Minneapolis, such as books, photos, maps, biographical materials, clippings, programs, documents and many archival collections. Many materials from this collection are available digitally through the Library’s webpage. Other collections in the department include the Kittleson World War II collection, the 19th Century American Studies Collection, the Huttner Abolition and Anti-Slavery Collection and the Hoag Mart Twain Collection.

Commitment: One semester March 2012 – May 2012; 8 to10 hours per week for a total of 120 hours.

This is an unpaid position which could be for college credit or work experience.

Duties: Primary duties and responsibilities include:
- Review NRP
archival donation,
- Create content
descriptions of each box and identify duplicate materials (to be
weeded).
- Label each box
and develop finding aid based on existing NRP collection
- Scanning/Digitization
of visual material
- Creation of
metadata
Requirements:
Best Qualified Candidates will have:

Familiarity with computer technology very important
·
Experience in digital preservation and/or metadata creation
helpful but not necessary.
·
Education or knowledge of local history helpful but not necessary.
·
Some archival work experience and/or education in archival studies
or librarianship.
·
Not completed an internship with Hennepin County Library in the
past.
