Metropolitan State University Library Technician Position (Full-Time)



METROPOLITAN STATE UNIVERSITY, a vibrant and growing public, urban university, is seeking to fill a full-time, twelve-month Technical Services Technician position within the Library and Learning Center, beginning April 2016.

Responsibilities:
·      This position will provide day-to-day implementation and assistance of technical services at Metropolitan State University Library. 
·      Assist Cataloging & Acquisitions Librarian with the ordering and receiving of resources.
·      Assist Cataloging & Acquisitions Librarian with the cataloging of new and gift materials. 
·      Assist E-Resources Librarian with physical and electronic journals. 
·      Contribute to the maintenance of the library’s electronic resources collection and website. 
·      Hires, trains and manages student worker(s) in the technical services area. 
 
Minimum Qualifications:
·      Working knowledge of library systems (e.g. ALEPH, OCLC) and basic library operations (e.g. acquisitions, serials).
·      Proficiency with personal computer applications (e.g. word processing, database and spreadsheet applications).
·      Problem solving ability.
·      Ability to carry out tasks with minimal supervision and follow through in a timely manner.
·      Works well independently and as part of a team.
·      High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
·      Effective written and oral communication skills.
·      Knowledge of standard MARC bibliographic record

Preferred Qualifications:
·      Familiarity with current trends, standards, and emerging technologies in libraries.
·      Bachelor’s degree.
·      Two years of experience working in a library.
·      Experience in copy cataloging and classification of library materials using Library of Congress classification, Library of Congress (LC) subject headings, machine-readable cataloging (MARC) records, Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules 2 (AACR2), or RDA.
·      Experience using HTML, CSS, and/or content management systems.

The Saint Paul Public Library (SPPL) is seeking an individual who has cultural connection to the African American community in Saint Paul. This position is a half time, grant funded position for one year, through spring 2017.

INFORMATION ABOUT THIS JOB OPENING:
Performs intermediate level technical work promoting library services to African American audiences, as well as targeted communities of color including immigrant communities.  Facilitates and delivers library services with a focus on programs that contribute to children's literacy development and school readiness as well as programs for adults such as job searching, and digital literacy. Provides direct services in English and/or a language other than English such as leading English language learning, providing translation and interpretation services, delivering cultural competency training to Saint Paul Public Library staff and the public. Improves the effectiveness of Library communication with communities of color by developing and maintaining key contacts within the Communities. Serves as an internal consultant regarding specific communities of color to Saint Paul Public Library staff. 

REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License, or equivalent out-of-state driver's license. The driver's license must have no suspensions or revocations for driving-related offenses within the two year period prior to date of appointment. Suspensions for parking-related offenses are excluded.

Must have computer literacy and meet one of the following:
  • A bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of college (60 semester credits) and two years of reference and referral library services experience.
  • A Certificate in Urban Library Services or equivalent certification and one year of library services experience.
  • Four years of experience in a social service agency providing direct client service and one year of library services experience.
  • Four years of experience in a social service agency providing direct client service plus 12 college semester credits.
 Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience in a social service agency providing direct client service.
  • Experience working with youth.
  • Experience working with adults.
  • Experience teaching.

Part Time Job: Patron Services Library Assistant

The Hudson Area Joint Library is seeking a qualified, service oriented candidate for a part-time Patron Services Library Assistant. The Patron Services Library Assistant provides customer service at the Help and Information Desk, directs the work of library aides and clerks, plans, implements, and/or assists with adult programming, and performs other duties as assigned. The position is 23 hours per week, including evenings and weekends. Flexibility in scheduling is a must. 

The ideal candidate will possess:

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required. Library and Information Science coursework preferred. Experience working in a library is a plus.

Unpaid Internships: ALEPH Data Cleanup

The first member of the MNPALS consortium to request internships has contacted MCTC and they are looking for LIT program students (current or graduated).  Some things to consider: it’s unpaid and in Cambridge MN, but it’s really flexible, has a variety of opportunities and you could just commit to one week in order to fulfill the requirement.  Here’s the blurb:

The library on the Cambridge campus of Anoka-Ramsey Community College is seeking an intern to help with a large clean-up of the library’s catalog.  The internship will be unpaid and for the duration of 20 hours. The schedule is fairly flexible; hours can be completed anytime within the hours following:

Mondays 8:00AM-7:30PM
Tuesdays 9:30AM-8:00PM
Wednesdays 8:00AM-3:00PM
Thursdays 9:30AM-8:00PM.

Duties may include:
·       Scanning of items for inventory
·      Fixing errors in catalog records using ALEPH
·       Checking materials in and out to students
·       Answering reference questions
·       Assisting students with locating appropriate library resources
·      Other library related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
·      Enrollment in a Library Science or Library Tech program
