DC Job Posting - Serials Cataloging Technician

LAC Group seeks a Serials Cataloging Technician for a full-time or part-time contract position at a Government Library in Washington, DC. Must have experience with cataloging serials, and MARC records. Will be checking and updating MARC records. Our ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of serials cataloging experience and have excellent communication skills. Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to be considered.

Qualifications:


* Must be a U.S. Citizen
* At least 2 years of experience doing serials cataloging
* Must be able to work quickly and meet production standards with a very low error rate
* Must be able to maintain an excellent focus on details throughout the workday
* Must possess a 4-year Bachelor's degree in order to be considered

MD Job Posting - Library Technician

LAC Group seeks a Library Technician for a full-time, long-term temporary position at a highly regarded law firm located in Baltimore, Maryland. This position will work as part of the firm's larger Technical Services team.

Responsibilities:
  • Complete all processing of cataloged materials, including shelving and packing materials for shipment
  • Re-label and arrange materials, shifting as necessary
  • Label desk copies and either arrange for distribution or shipment to other offices
  • May assist with the organization of the archival collection
  • Assist the Technical Services Team with on-site office collection moves and reorganizations
  • Perform other administrative tasks as needed
Qualifications:
  • Associates degree or relevant library experience
  • Attention to detail
  • Accuracy, ability to concentrate on tasks, and ability to work independently
  • Ability to deal effectively with attorneys, staff, and library personnel
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills

ALA-APA Sessions at ALA Annual

ALA-APA is hosting a full roster of programs at Annual Conference. There’s the 8 part MBA Series for Librarians (all are welcome) and 5 Programs for the People.

Also, on Sunday, 6/26/2011, 4:00 – 5:30 pm, MCC 265, there will be a Library Support Staff Certification Program Open Forum - ALA has developed a national, voluntary Library Support Staff Certification Program (LSSC Program). Local Holdings Maintenance

Local Holdings Maintenance - Part 1

This webinar will introduce library staff to the basics of editing Local Holdings Records (LHRs) through the OCLC Connexion Browser. We will discuss the implementation of MARC 21 format in OCLC, and demonstrate the steps required to update LHRs. In Part 1, the focus is on LHRs created by the automated migration from Passport UL, and trainees will learn how to update and delete holdings currently in the system. This webinar will include live demonstration of updating in OCLC Connexion.

9th Annual MN Digital Library Meeting

Those of you who did internships related to digital content or are interested in this kind of work should consider attending this.

Minnesota Digital Library logo.The Minnesota Digital Library's 9th Annual Meeting will be held June 6 at the Continuing Education & Conference Center, University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus. Registration will begin at 8:45 AM, and the welcome session and keynote speaker will begin at 9:15 AM.

This year's keynote speaker will be Michelle Gallinger, Library of Congress. Gallinger is a part of the National Digital Information Infrastructure Preservation Program (NDIIPP) and is helping to build the National Digital Stewardship Alliance. In her keynote, she will discuss the status of these and other national digital preservation initiatives, share lessons she has learned from these collaborations, and provide a look ahead at the challenges and concerns of digital preservation.

The keynote will be followed by three concurrent sessions in three different time slots. Here's a list of the session titles:

· "Metadata in Minnesota Reflections"

· "Planning a Minnesota Reflections Project: Oral Histories"

· "Copyright Concepts and Discussion" (2 sessions)
