Job Description:
This position will work about 10-15 hrs a week, for 6 months.

Help support the clerical, technical and administrative needs of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) Library, a specialized information center providing services and resources for DEED staff and partners. DEED is the state's principal economic development agency and its programs promote business recruitment, expansion, and retention; international trade; workforce development; and community development. 


Duties:
  • Assist librarian with collection management.
  • Oversee library facility, maintaining computers and other equipment.
  • Update library's website.
Please note that this position would initially be set up for 6 months, with the possibility of an extension, up to 36 months.
 

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Completion of two (2) to three (3) years of post-secondary education in library and information science.
  • Must be able to work 10-15 hours per week.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of computer and software, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to interact with clients and staff in a courteous, pleasant and professional manner.
Note: 
To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker, you must be a student enrolled in an educational program or planning to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as student workers, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. For this vacancy, students must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program. If a student is enrolled at a credit-granting institution he/she must carry at least six semester (nine quarter) credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, a student must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load shall be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.

At this level-- Student Worker, Para-Professional-Senior--students have generally completed at least 2-3 years of post-secondary education related to the program in which they are employed.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Web design and library experience.
  • Familiarity and understanding of library systems Aleph and OCLC for interlibrary loan, basic cataloging and periodicals managment.
