This is a unique and rewarding internship opportunity for a student currently enrolled in a library degree or certification program.
We are seeking a dedicated self-starter with good people, organizing and time management skills a strong interest in technology that will be responsible for assisting the Library Technology Conference Steering Committee in the planning of the 2012 Library Technology Conference. The Conference will be held March 14-15, 2012 on the campus of Macalester
College in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The Library Technology Conference is an annual conference (currently in its fifth year) which provides an opportunity for librarians to come together from around the region and the country to discuss the technologies that are affecting library services; to see examples of what libraries are doing with these technologies; and to allow participants to learn specific skills or knowledge that they can take back and adapt for use within their own library. Sessions offered include
both traditional conference sessions as well as hands-on workshops and cover a wide range of topics requiring varying skill levels. The 2011 conference was attended by 465 academic, public, K-12, and special (legal, medical, corporate, museums, etc) library staff from 195 different library organizations in 26 states.
The position will begin mid-September and continue until early April (total of 30 weeks) averaging 8-12 hours per week with up to 40 hours the week of the conference for a total of 300 hours. |
Qualifications Skill Qualifications:
● Experience and demonstrated competency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and the Adobe Creative Suite (inDesign, Photoshop) required;
● Experience with using social media tools, including Facebook and Twitter required;
● Some experience with organizing and creating print publications desired;
● Previous experience working with web pages and web design including html, css, etc.
Personal Competencies:
● Strong interest in technology and its impact on libraries;
● Excellent written and oral communication skills;
● Strong organizational skills;
● Proactive, flexible, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task;
● Ability to meet deadlines;
● Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision |
Responsibilities Duties and responsibilities will primarily include:
● Work with program planning staff to organize conference concurrent, poster and hands-on sessions;
● Assist with coordinating conference registration;
● Assist in producing conference program and other conference print publications;
● Help in managing and updating conference web site;
● Provide support for external conference publicity and communications using social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter;
● Help coordinate follow-up survey to gather feedback from conference participants;
● Perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned. |
