Job Description: This position files, shelves, and circulates library
materials and assists library patrons in the use of library resources. The
person in this position trains and supervises unskilled/student workers and
oversees student filing and shelving and assists the Librarian with office
correspondence. 

Hours of Work: Monday - Thursday 11:30 am - 8:00 pm; Friday 7:30 am - 4:00
pm 

Minimum Qualifications: 
.Working knowledge of library classification system(s) and standard library
reference tools sufficient to assist clients in locating materials and
conducting research 
.Ability to apply and support detailed coding or cataloging systems
sufficient to create tracking for new print and non-print library
acquisitions and locate and replace existing materials 
.Ability to operate personal computers, use various software and web-based
applications, and other office equipment sufficient to locate catalog
information, word-process documents, complete forms and prepare reports
.Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing sufficient to
determine and respond to the informational needs of clients of varied
educational levels and backgrounds; to train, direct and evaluate work of
student clerical staff; and to assist the professional library staff to
maintain the library collection according to library policy and procedures

Preferred Qualifications: 
.Knowledge of standard library and office practices, policies and procedures

.Ability to use automated resources, including the Internet and the MnPALS
system 
.Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal and Library of Congress classification
systems 
.Knowledge and skill in OCLC (On-Line Computer Library Network) and other
similar computer systems sufficient to locate catalog information and print
documenting materials 
.Knowledge of Library policies and procedures sufficient to train and direct
workstudy students 
.Knowledge of the procedures of various interlibrary loan networks, such as
Minitex, copyright guidelines and location, and verification tools
sufficient to coordinate interlibrary loan activity 
.Knowledge and experience utilizing computers and various office machines
(photocopy machines, VCRs tape records, fax machines, etc.) 
.Excellent customer service and communication skills within a vibrant, urban
environment
