Job Announcement: Minnesota Historical Society State Archives Collections Assistant

The Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS) seeks applicants for a Collections Assistant position to support the collections of the State Archives department and the Library & Collections division by developing, testing, and implementing digital collection preservation processes and workflows; maintaining preserved collections, assisting with new accessions, and contributing to projects with external partners. This is a fulltime, project (2,088 annual hours) position located at the History Center in St. Paul, MN working through June 30, 2015.

SUMMARY OF WORK: Responsibilities include:
1) assist with the preservation of digital collections within the division; and
 2) contribute to projects with external partners as directed.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma plus two years experience or formalized training within a professional discipline OR bachelor’s degree in library/information science, archival studies or a related field plus one year program experience in an archival setting or equivalent.
-Experience with digital preservation topics and activities.
-Experience working with digital media such as floppy disks, external hard drives, and DVDs.
-Strong online research skills.
-Ability to lift and maneuver 30-40 pound boxes.
-Demonstrated ability to work independently and to ask questions as appropriate.
-Demonstrated ability to create, organize and maintain paper and electronic files, including Microsoft Access databases.
-Demonstrated ability to maintain focus while working on several projects at once.
-Strong analytical skills, including ability to work with a variety of digital tools and technologies.
-Demonstrated ability to stay abreast of preservation research and advances.
-Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
-Advanced library/information science or archival studies degree.
-Experience handling and processing archival materials.
-Computer help desk experience.
-Technical writing experience.
-Familiarity with Minnesota government and history.

 SALARY: $3,000.00 monthly minimum
