Job: Library Services Assistant with Washing County Library (Cottage Grove)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of paid work experience that includes six months of customer service and six months using computers and software applications.
The finalist for a position vacancy will be required to pass a criminal history investigation at County expense prior to beginning employment with Washington County.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Explains library registration and loaning policies and registers new library customers, collects payments for various fees and accounts for monetary transactions. Resolves concerns with customers regarding overdue library materials and assists them in locating library items. Checks library materials in and out, shelves library items and carries out a variety of tasks to maintain library collections and services.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
  • Paid customer service experience above the minimum requirements
  • Paid software applications experience above the minimum requirements
  • One or more years of paid library work experience
  • Bilingual abilities
  • Paid customer service experience working with cultural groups other than your own

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work performed is physical in nature, and typically performed within a Library. Lifting requirement of up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis. Equipment used may include, but is not limited to, computer, calculator, telephone, camera, cash register, photocopier, printer and scanner.

Work interruptions are frequent.  There is some pressure associated with dealing with individuals who may be emotionally charged and with project or activity deadlines and details.
Additional physical/mental requirements that occur may not be listed above, but are inherent in   performing the position's essential functions.

HOURS / DAYS: Twenty (20) hours per week, including various days, evenings, and weekends. Work schedules (hours and days) and location are subject to change based on department needs.
ANTICIPATED HIRING RATE: $13.22/hour
